Recently, I was having a conversation with a philosopher. As we spoke with curiosity, I asked a question:
“What is life? ”
“Oh, that’s a difficult question,” he replied, and then continued,
“Life itself has no meaning. It’s the meaning we give to it.”

I found that line so simple, yet so beautiful. It made me reflect on how we are living our lives in general. We often conform to societal standards. If a child doesn’t choose engineering, medicine, or management, we assume they won’t achieve anything in life. We reduce life to the pursuit of money. We feel anxious when our friends get high-paying placements and we don’t.
We generalize too much — as if there’s only one right way to live. Many people pursue an MBA or any other degree without really knowing why they’re doing it.
Most of the time, we fail to ask ourselves, “What do I really want in life?” Instead, we look around at what others are doing and feel the fear of missing out. We start chasing someone else’s dream, thinking it should be ours too. In the end, everyone ends up living the same way.
I believe we don’t think deeply enough — or we only think in the short term. We often don’t have a clear vision or don’t put in the effort to understand ourselves. And when that happens, we end up living someone else’s life.
